Is this the right starting point?
When to use it
Operators with findings to act on, policies that stop at the plant gate, or a roadmap nobody is running.
What you receive
A remediation program delivered to as-built, OT governance built on your corporate framework, and designs we build with your team or your integrators.
What we start with
The findings or roadmap you already hold, the policies and standards your company already has, and your change-control process and outage calendar.
Working within your operation. Nothing moves before the design is agreed in writing. Every change runs through your change control and your maintenance windows.

Cybersecurity is never a one-off project. It is a lifecycle, and it needs an independent, honest and skilled partner working with the operator through every stage.
Then back to Assess, as the operation, the threat and the standards change.
Watch
Program, governance and design, run as one remediation.
How corporate policy reaches the plant floor, how a tabletop decision is proven in a drill, and how a roadmap becomes an as-built design.
From the operator side
Engineers who have run the plants.
We are experts in the key cybersecurity and OT cybersecurity standards. Our team has more than 20 years of experience, with careers spanning automation and process control systems engineering and IT/OT cybersecurity. We have worked as operators with major global companies across oil and gas, power and utilities, chemicals, energy, manufacturing and petrochemicals, as well as in OEM leadership and consulting.
We know how the process runs, what a maintenance window costs, why a controller cannot simply be taken offline, and what a trip does to the unit downstream.
Remediation is planned by people who have had to live with it, so the sequence starts from your outage calendar and your vendor agreements, not from the finding list.

GRC
Governance, risk and compliance
OT policies and procedures, continuity and disaster recovery, ISO/IEC 27001 and the other frameworks that govern you, built on what your company already has and proven by cyber drills.
Most organizations start with the service their situation forces. Governance without remediation produces documents; remediation without design repeats old architecture; either without a program drifts back. All three share one risk register, so running them together costs less than running them apart.
Service 01 · AKTDesign™ · secure control-system design
Security designed into the control system, before it is built or changed.
AKTDesign™ brings control-system engineering and cybersecurity into the same design: control narratives, controller and I/O architecture, zones and conduits, safety interfaces, remote access and acceptance tests, agreed around the project stage before procurement decisions are locked in.
Start with the process, then design what can move it.
A process drawing shows what the plant must do. A control-network drawing shows the systems and access paths that can influence it. Read together, they give security its operational context.
Swipe or scroll sideways to explore the full drawing. Keyboard: focus the diagram and use the arrow keys.
Trace the loop. Follow the instrument, controller and final element as one function.
Trace the access. Identify the engineering sessions, services and connections that can change that function.
Specify the boundary. Translate approved access into a documented, testable design decision.
One plant, a more deliberate architecture
Watch a flat network become zones, controlled crossings and monitoring, then follow a vendor's remote session through the design: named account and second factor at the boundary, a session that ends in the industrial DMZ, a separate proxied session to the engineering workstation, one time-bound path to one controller, and no path to the safety system.
The drawing plays when visible. Select a phase to pause and explore it, or choose Zoom for labels.
Make the design buildable
We support the owner’s engineering team or work alongside your integrator. The scope is agreed around the project stage, operating constraints and interfaces that need a decision.
Control system architecture and specification
Control narratives, controller and I/O architecture, redundancy, failure behavior, operator interfaces and the requirements used to procure DCS, SCADA or PLC systems.
Industrial network and segmentation design
Zones and conduits, industrial DMZ services, topology, traffic flows and configuration requirements informed by ISA/IEC 62443 and the needs of the operation.
Safety interface and independence
Safety-system separation, engineering access, bypass management and interfaces reviewed with the functional safety engineer.
Identity, access and remote support
Identity, approved remote-access paths, session boundaries, access ownership and revocation requirements for maintenance and support.
Data, historian and edge architecture
Historian replication, edge placement and defined enterprise or cloud interfaces, including dependencies and the controls each path requires.
Factory and site acceptance testing
Security requirements expressed as acceptance tests, with evidence, pass criteria and a process for recording outstanding items.
Design-only engagements, control narratives and the FAT and SAT approach are on the AKTDesign™ page.
AKTDesign™ service detailsService 02 · R.I.S.E. 360™ · program and lifecycle management
Remediation run as a program, across its whole lifecycle.
R.I.S.E. 360™ is InnovAKT's OT cyber resilience program, run as the program and lifecycle management of your remediation. It turns the findings into a funded, sequenced roadmap, runs the program that delivers it to as-built inside your change control, and measures it the same way every quarter so progress can be shown rather than asserted. What has to be designed is designed through AKTDesign™.
Remediation roadmap
A roadmap your outage calendar can absorb.
The remediation backlog sequenced with dependencies made explicit: what has to be in place before the next item can start, what each item will disrupt, which maintenance window it needs, and which vendor agreement it touches. Every item carries a named owner and a funding position. Items with neither are recorded as unfunded rather than tracked as though they were live.
- Procurement specifications, RFQ scope and vendor evaluation, written vendor-neutral so the work can be tendered competitively.
- Quick wins separated from structural work, so foundational gaps close first without waiting for the whole program.
- An operational risk register maintained between cycles, in terms an engineering manager recognizes and a board can act on.
Program management and delivery
From approved design to as-built, in a plant that keeps running.
A named program lead owns the engagement end to end: scope, schedule, budget, vendors and stakeholder communication. We deliver directly, work alongside your engineers, or specify and supervise your integrator, and the work is tested against the design, evidenced and handed over with the documentation your team needs to own it.
- Network segmentation and the industrial DMZ
- Firewall policy rebuilt from intent
- Governed secure remote access
- System hardening and secure configuration management
- Backup and recovery made restorable
- Managed security service selection and onboarding, where you need one, including whether InnovAKT Shield™ or another provider fits, against criteria you can compare
The same firewall, before and after the work.
A rule nobody can explain is a rule nobody can safely remove.
Measured the same way every quarter
A score is only useful if it was produced the same way twice.
These are the conditions that make quarterly comparison defensible. They are agreed in the program definition before the first baseline is taken.
- Method fixed at the outset — scoring criteria and evidence rules do not change mid-program
- Evidence-based scoring — a capability is credited on observed evidence, not on intent or procurement
- The same collection method every cycle — OT-native tools on the production network, configured the same way each quarter so scores stay comparable
- Scores validated with your team — before any figure reaches a leadership pack
- Ownership stays with you — we run the cadence and the measurement; accountability remains with the asset owner
A number produced a different way is not progress. It is a different number.
The program model, the governance forums and the quarterly measurement method are on the R.I.S.E. 360™ page.
R.I.S.E. 360™ service detailsService 03 · GRC · governance, risk and compliance
Governance that reaches the plant floor.
Most industrial companies already have an information security policy set, a risk register, a business continuity plan and often an ISO/IEC 27001 certification. Most of it stops at the plant gate. We do not write a parallel OT rulebook. We extend what corporate already has, adding an OT annex only where the plant genuinely differs: safety, availability, vendor support constraints, and equipment that lives for decades.
One company, one view of risk, for IT and OT.
OT policies and procedures
Access control, vendor and remote access, change management, removable media, backup, patch and vulnerability handling, and incident response, each written as an extension of the corporate policy it belongs to. Where the plant must differ, the OT annex says how, why, and who signs the exception.
Business continuity and disaster recovery for OT
Recovery priorities set by critical function with operations, safe-state and degraded-mode operation, recovery procedures for controllers, HMIs, engineering workstations and historians, backup isolation and retention, and recovery time targets operations has agreed to. Aligned with ISO 22301 where your company uses it.
ISO/IEC 27001 in the OT environment
Extending an existing certification's scope to include OT, or aligning OT to it without certification: the statement of applicability, OT controls, evidence and internal audit readiness, with ISA/IEC 62443-2-1 as the industrial security program and ISO/IEC 27019 for energy utilities. We prepare the organization; certification is issued by an accredited body.
The other frameworks that govern you
One control set, mapped once to what applies: NIST CSF 2.0 governance, NERC CIP, NIS2, Saudi NCA OTCC and others identified in scoping, using the OT overlay in NIST SP 800-82 Rev. 3 (Appendix F) so controls are tailored to OT rather than copied from the enterprise.
One company view for IT and OT
One risk register, one policy framework with OT annexes, one incident response with decision rights written down: who declares an OT incident, who may authorize containment, who holds stop authority. Leadership sees one position, not two reports that disagree.
Tabletop exercises, proven by cyber drills
The same policy, extended for the plant.
Illustrative. Select a policy area to see what the corporate version already says and what the OT annex adds.
Access control
Remote and vendor access
Change management
Patch and vulnerability handling
Incident response
Backup and recovery
Decided at the table. Proven in the drill.
A tabletop exercise establishes who decides what when something goes wrong. A cyber drill then proves the decision can be carried out: the backup restores, the call is answered at three in the morning, the vendor session can be cut. We run both, and the drill results go back into the policies and the continuity plan.
-
Engineering workstation encrypted during a night shift
At the table
Who declares an OT incident? Does the unit keep running? Who calls the integrator, and what may they touch?
In the drill
The workstation is rebuilt from its offline image on isolated hardware, project files are checked against the controller, and the time to recover is recorded.
-
A vendor remote session opens outside its approved window
At the table
Who can terminate it? Who contacts the vendor? What evidence is preserved, and by whom?
In the drill
The session is ended and the account disabled through the access broker, and the out-of-hours call tree is exercised end to end.
-
The link between the plant and the enterprise is lost
At the table
Can the plant run without the historian feed and enterprise reporting? Who tells the regulator or the customer, and with what?
In the drill
Degraded-mode operation is walked through with the shift team and the manual reporting path is exercised.
Drills never touch the running process. They run on bench or spare equipment, or in an agreed window with operations holding stop authority. Safety systems are never part of a drill.
GRC is delivered within AKTSecure™. Ask for the GRC service description, or tell us the policy area or drill you would start with.
Discuss GRCHow we work on site
Nothing moves before the design is agreed in writing.
Implementation inside a running plant is governed by your processes, not ours. These constraints are written into scope before work begins.
Design first
Agreed and documented before any configuration change is made. The drawing exists before the cabinet is opened.
Your change control
Every change raised, approved and scheduled through your own process. No change reaches your network without a decision recorded on your side.
Maintenance windows only
Cutovers planned to your outage calendar, with rollback defined and tested off the running process beforehand.
Vendor agreements respected
OEM support and warranty positions confirmed against the agreement before a system is altered, not after.
Safety systems out of scope
The SIS is not modified, not tested and never used as an implementation path. Safety changes follow IEC 61511 and your own functional safety management.
Responsibility split stated
Who does the work, who approves it, who accepts it — recorded per task, in writing, before the task begins.
Drills off the running process
Cyber drills run on bench or spare equipment, or in an agreed window with operations holding stop authority. Safety systems are never part of a drill.
Your framework, extended
Policies are written as extensions of your corporate framework, approved by your owners, and remain yours. The compliance obligation stays with the asset owner.
Fit
Where AKTSecure™ fits, and where to start instead.
Use AKTSecure™ when
- You hold credible findings and a roadmap, and nobody is running it.
- Corporate policy, continuity planning or ISO/IEC 27001 scope stops at the plant gate.
- IT and OT each have a risk register and leadership receives two answers.
- A regulator, insurer or customer wants evidence that recovery works, not that a plan exists.
- A new plant, unit or migration needs its architecture and security requirements before procurement.
- A funded program is running and nobody can show whether it is working.
Start with another service when
- You have no view of operational exposure yet. Start with GoSecure™.
- An incident is in progress. Email info@innovakt.com with “OT incident” in the subject rather than using the form. We confirm quickly how we can support, working under your operational authority, and the remediation program follows once the plant is stable.
- Nobody internally owns OT security decisions yet. AKTElevate™ establishes the owner and the decision rights, and OT CISO Advisory can lead under a written mandate while that owner is appointed.
- What you need is continuous operation of controls rather than a program — see InnovAKT Shield™.
Framework alignment
Built on the standards your engineers, auditors and vendors already use.
ISA/IEC 62443-2-1 for the industrial security program, 62443-3-3 for system requirements and 62443-2-4 for integrator and service-provider obligations. ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27019 for the management system, ISO 22301 for continuity. NIST CSF 2.0 for governance and board reporting.
NIST SP 800-82 Rev. 3: OT cybersecurity program development (§3), including recovery and restoration capability (§3.3.9); OT cybersecurity architecture and defense-in-depth (§5), with its three reference architecture models (§5.4); network segmentation and isolation (Appendix E.1); recovery (§6.5); and the OT overlay for tailoring controls (Appendix F).
No customer is measured against every framework. Scoping names the ones that govern you. Compliance is a floor, not the objective. NIST SP 800-82 is guidance; we describe our work as aligned with it.
Outcomes
What is different in the organization afterwards.
One view of risk
IT and OT governed through one framework and one register, so leadership receives one answer.
Recovery that has been proven
Restoration exercised on real equipment and timed, rather than assumed because backup jobs complete.
A roadmap being delivered
Named owners, funding positions and windows attached to every item, and the work moving through your change control.
Progress that survives challenge
Quarterly re-measurement by the same method, with movement attributed to specific work.

Questions we are actually asked
What a buyer and a plant manager ask before anyone opens a cabinet.
Are you going to take the plant down?
Not unannounced, and not on our schedule. Every cutover runs inside a window you schedule, through your change process, with your operations team present and stop authority held by the plant. Rollback is built and proven off the running process beforehand, not improvised when a window starts to close.
Some of this work does need an outage: a core switch replacement, a controller network re-addressing or a firewall insertion at a live boundary. We identify those steps during scoping, complete the design, staging and pre-testing ahead of time, and schedule each cutover into the first window your plan allows, so nobody discovers the constraint in month four.
Our OEM says we cannot change that configuration.
Then nothing changes until that is confirmed in writing with the vendor. Support position and warranty are checked before a system is altered, not after, and the check happens against the agreement rather than against what someone recalls being told.
Where the restriction genuinely holds, we do not proceed anyway and leave you carrying an unsupported system. We design a compensating control around it and record why. Sometimes the answer is simply that the constraint stands and the exposure is managed at the boundary instead.
We already have an integrator. Why would we bring you in?
To keep the design independent of the party building it, and to add capacity where you need it. If your integrator is capable and already inside your change process, our role can be the specification and the acceptance testing, so you are not accepting a design from the party being paid to implement it. Where you need more hands, our engineers deliver alongside your integrator under the same change control.
We hold no resale margin and no referral position in anything we specify, which is what allows the requirement to be written so you can tender it competitively rather than receive one supplier's architecture as the only option.
Can you just clean up the firewall rules and leave the rest?
Yes. Firewall policy rebuilt from intent is a self-contained piece of work and it is frequently where an organization starts, because it delivers a visible result inside one or two maintenance windows.
The limitation is worth being direct about. Rebuilding a rule base without settling the zone model gives you a policy you can explain, enforcing an architecture nobody has agreed. That is a real improvement and it is not the same as segmentation. We will say which one you are buying.
What stops all of this drifting back within two years?
Partly the handover: as-built documentation, configuration baselines, operating procedure and a working session with the team who will run the controls afterwards. Partly the discipline built into the design, such as expiry and removal written into the same change record that grants temporary access.
And partly an internal owner who has accepted the result. We help you name and prepare that owner as part of the handover, and where you want the controls operated and their drift measured continuously, InnovAKT Shield™ runs them with your team.
Who is actually doing the work between cycles, you or us?
Either, and usually both. We run the measurement, the governance forums and the reporting, and our engineers can deliver the remediation and capability work alongside your teams and integrators, through your change control and your maintenance windows. The split is set in the program definition, around the capacity you have and the capacity you want to build.
What stays with you is ownership: a named internal owner takes the decisions and accepts the results between our visits. Until that person is appointed, OT CISO Advisory supports the executive who holds the risk.
What happens if the score goes down?
It sometimes does, and the reason is usually one of three. A capability credited on intent at baseline is re-scored on evidence once that evidence is looked for. The estate grew through an acquisition, a new unit or a migration, and the denominator changed. Or a previously closed finding was re-validated and found to have drifted.
A method that cannot record a decline cannot credibly record an improvement either. We will not adjust the method to protect a trend line, and we will tell leadership which of the three causes applies, because the required response is different in each case.
Will a cyber drill touch production?
No. Drills run on bench or spare equipment, on isolated hardware, or inside a window you schedule with operations present and holding stop authority. Safety systems are never part of a drill. If a scenario cannot be exercised safely under those conditions, it stays a tabletop scenario and the report says so.
Questions buyers ask
What we are asked before we start.
What is AKTSecure™?
AKTSecure™ is InnovAKT's OT remediation service, in three parts that can be bought separately or together. R.I.S.E. 360™, the resilience program, runs the remediation as one managed lifecycle. GRC builds OT policies, continuity and recovery, and ISO/IEC 27001 scope on the framework your company already has, and proves them through tabletop exercises and cyber drills. AKTDesign™ designs security into the control system and its architecture.
What does the GRC part cover?
OT policies and procedures written as extensions of your corporate framework, business continuity and disaster recovery for OT, ISO/IEC 27001 scope and statement of applicability for the OT environment, mapping to the other frameworks that govern you, one company view of risk for IT and OT, and tabletop exercises proven by cyber drills.
What is R.I.S.E. 360™?
R.I.S.E. 360™ is InnovAKT's OT cyber resilience program, run as the program and lifecycle management of your remediation: a funded, sequenced roadmap, program management that delivers it to as-built through your change control, and quarterly re-measurement with a method that does not change between cycles.
What is AKTDesign™?
AKTDesign™ is InnovAKT's secure control-system design service. It brings control engineering and cybersecurity into the same design: control-system architecture and specifications, zones and conduits, safety interfaces, remote access, data paths and security acceptance tests, agreed around the project stage before procurement decisions are locked in.
Who does the implementation work — InnovAKT, the client, or an integrator?
Whichever combination fits the plant. InnovAKT delivers directly, works alongside the client's engineers, or specifies and supervises a systems integrator. What does not change is that the work is tested against the design, evidenced, and handed over with the documentation and training the client's team needs to own it.
How does implementation avoid disrupting production?
By treating every change as an engineering change: a written plan, a rollback, vendor coordination, testing off line where a test environment exists, and execution inside an approved window under the plant's own management of change process. InnovAKT does not deploy agents, push patches or change network behavior on live control systems without that sequence.
Can you work with the policies we already have?
That is the starting point. We read your corporate policy set, risk register and continuity plan first, and extend them with OT annexes where the plant genuinely differs. You end up with one framework that covers both, owned by the people who own it today, rather than a second rulebook that the plant ignores and corporate never reads.
Will you certify us to ISO/IEC 27001?
No. Certification is issued by an accredited certification body, and it would not be independent if we issued it. We prepare the organization: scope, statement of applicability, OT controls, evidence and internal audit readiness. Where you already hold a certificate, the work is usually extending its scope to the OT environment.
Does AKTSecure™ include tabletop exercises?
Yes, and they run with operations in the room, not only IT and security. Each tabletop is followed by a cyber drill that proves the decision can be carried out: a controller configuration restored on bench equipment, a vendor session cut through the access broker, an out-of-hours call tree answered.
Can you design a new plant or migration, not only fix an existing one?
Yes. AKTDesign™ covers new facilities, migrations and operating plants: control-system architecture and specifications, zones and conduits, safety interfaces, remote access, data paths and security acceptance tests, agreed around the project stage before procurement decisions are locked in.
Next step
Start with one policy area and one drill, one zone, or one design.
A single policy area proven in a drill, or a single zone taken from design to as-built, establishes method, effort and value before anything is committed across the estate.
- Design agreed in writing — before any configuration change
- Your change control — every change approved on your side
- Drills off the running process — bench equipment or an agreed window
- Vendor-neutral — we resell no products and take no referral fees
